ABSTRACT

According to the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Education and Training (2000) the time needed for an adolescent to develop a proficient level in a fundamental movement skill such as catching ranges from 240 to 600 minutes. However, recent research (Booth et al., 2006) suggests that only 15–20 % of boys achieve mastery of a skill like a catch by Year 10. This evidence highlights the importance and place of a coach in the development of players' fundamental movement skills.
