ABSTRACT

The punt kick is a feature of all the football codes. It involves starting with the ball held in the hands with the body moving towards the target. In the last two steps, the ball is released such that it falls to a position where the kick foot can strike it. The ball is then forcefully contacted by the foot near the ground to be propelled through the air to the target. It is used as the primary means of disposal in Australian and Gaelic football, tactically in the rugby codes and American football and by association football goalkeepers when kicking out.
