ABSTRACT
During the 1980s, as unemployment began to rise steeply in the UK and other European countries, some voices were raised in protest over the impact on families of economic policies creating unemployment. In 1984, Fagin and Little detailed the family life of the unemployed, noting especially that unemployment was so stressful for many fathers that their own health and family relationships were severely affected.
