ABSTRACT
Many popular sources portray parenting as a task of joy, pleasure and satisfaction. There are positive aspects, pleasures and benefits from parenting. There is certainly a widespread rhetoric of respect and reward for parenting which conveys maturity and respectability. Whilst this is muted in the case of parenting alone, there is some evidence that parenting together provides a central axis around which communication revolves and perhaps maintains relationships that might otherwise decline or decay.
