ABSTRACT
Teachers need to be clear in their own minds about the purpose of a particular project. Events must be planned at the beginning of such projects: the teacher must explain the purpose, and then must make sure that each child has a clear understanding of the purpose. Inquiries carried out in the 1980s showed that there was often a disparity between the two (Bennett et al. 1984; Bennett and Kell 1989).
