ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we focus upon an investigation of global careers in a Canadian context. Canada is the second largest country by landmass on Earth, and yet it has only slightly more than 34 million inhabitants. The history of immigration, proximity to the United States of America and linguistic diversity are all issues that make Canada an interesting place to consider when coming to grips with the idea of a global career. To this end, we provide a brief survey of global careers in Canada and offer two key high-profile stories of Canadian careers that illustrate some important aspects, which we are able to highlight through elements of a critical sensemaking approach. We conclude with some thoughts about Canadian global careers and also how such examinations may offer some practical implications regarding career management in a postmodern context.
