ABSTRACT
As mental health services enter the age of community care in a multiethnic society, it is important that all those involved in their delivery have an understanding of the relevant legal framework; its opportunities and limitations. This chapter does not aim to provide details of mental health legislation but to indicate in broad outline the legal framework within which professional work in the mental health services is carried out.
