ABSTRACT

What makes a work situation fair? The present chapter addresses this question within the context of negotiation. After reviewing this question, we offer some justice-enhancing strategies for negotiators—particularly for managers seeking to manage conflicts in their organizations. Finally, the chapter looks at how the growth of Internet-based social networking websites (SNWs) changes both the context of negotiations and how managers might use justice-enhancing strategies. As we will make clear, social networking activities by job applicants and employees present challenges to managers who seek to balance their use of relevant information for decision making with their efforts to use justice-enhancing strategies.
