ABSTRACT

In Britain today, all those working with families of young children where the quality of parenting being provided in the home is causing concern face a therapeutic dilemma. When distressed, depressed, isolated and socially demoralised parents are first encountered they are not, typically, in good enough personal shape themselves, burdened as they are with multiple stressors which preoccupy them, to make use of clinical attempts to facilitate their role as parents and help them form a more positive relationship with their children.
