ABSTRACT

Summarising some of the major studies that have taken place in nonparental day care recently, McGuire and Earls state: ‘These studies suggest that, rather than [children] becoming socialised in day care, the opposite may be taking place’ (1991). This chapter summarises the findings of two research projects, and a rare example of putting research findings into practice. Unfortunately the major recommendations, made twenty years ago, are still not implemented in most local authority nurseries.
