ABSTRACT

In modern times there has been a considerable interest in work and leisure and the changing relationship between them. This stems in part from a concern with how society is structured and functions, and with the implications of change for policy. It also stems from a concern with quality of life and well-being, and for the type of society we may wish to become. We all have an interest in work and leisure, but our experience in these areas is complex. If, for example, we were asked to say what constitutes work and leisure we would find it difficult to come up with satisfactory definitions. One person’s work is another person’s leisure.
