ABSTRACT

Several chapters in this volume deal with the relevance of reputation and bonds between artists and cultural careers. Boutinot explores the relevance of reputation among artistic peers, clients, and the public to French architectural careers. Similarly, Jones explores the influential career relationships the architect Frank Lloyd Wright had with a limited number of people late in his career. She finds that becoming known and incorporated into the profession and culture, a “sparse collaborative network,” may not be detrimental to artists’ success; rather, that the extensiveness of an artist’s promotional network is a crucial factor. The present chapter explores the process of ‘deep consecration’ in the careers of film actors who have received repeated critical recognition for their performances in two film industries: French cinema and Hollywood.
