ABSTRACT

When most people look at my curriculum vitae they make the assumption that I am an African American woman. Of course my name makes people wonder, but names are not always an accurate signifier for race. The truth is that I am White. However, I’ve never quite been able to relate to other White women in the ways that society says I should. I have White female friends but not a lot of them and none of my closest friends are White women, with the exception of my daughter and my mom. I used to question this fact but as I have grown older, I have realized that friends are where you find themmuch like love.
