ABSTRACT
Mr and Mrs Thomas, who are in their early 60s, live in a tower block in a large Midlands city. He has had multiple sclerosis for many years. Their married daughter and grandson live downstairs, the family being a great source of joy to the Thomas’s. Mr Thomas is now disabled to the point that he has not been out for four years, and accomplishing the basics of daily life is a great challenge for him and his wife. Their current housing causes many difficulties. Mrs Thomas is the main carer.
