ABSTRACT
Despite a wide range of theoretical and empirical analyses of the concept of transnationalism in the social sciences (sociology, political sciences, anthropology, economics, and geography), the notion has hardly been examined in a systematic fashion in social work with respect to the field's scholarly and professional developments (Homfeldt, Schröer, and Schweppe 2008; Negi and Furman 2010). Social work, as an applied professional field, can serve as a template for other professional disciplines such as education or nursing.
