The Never-ending Cycle of Teacher Growth book
All of these ideas, collectively, form the basis for the title of this chapter: that teachers must be involved in a never-ending cycle of professional growth.
This may or may not be good news for teachers. We would all like to be able to feel that we have finally mastered our chosen profession. But uncommonsense teachers (Mayher, 1990) recognize that while we can master many aspects of what we do, and while we can and do steadily improve through reflection on our practice, every new class, indeed every new student, presents new challenges which, if we recognize them, force us to stretch and grow.
