ABSTRACT

If one is interested in the ethics of assessment, there are a number of places to go to find a basic framework to guide the processes of inquiry. Foremost among these are the recommendations and guidelines on ethical conduct established by the Joint Committee on Standards for Educational Evaluation (JCSEE, 2011; see Yarbrough, Shulha, Hopson, & Caruthers, 2011) and the American Evaluation Association’s (AEA) task force (2008). Resources can also be found among major professional associations, such as the American Sociological Association, the American Psychological Association, and the National Council on Measurement in Education, to name a few. A brief review of the ethical codes advanced by these associations will be offered in this chapter. These sources provide valuable foundations for engaging in assessment and decision guidelines to assist inquiry.
