ABSTRACT

New approaches are needed to enable farmers to adapt to climate change, reduce net greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and adopt practices that will fortify the resilience of their soils, crops and agro-ecosystems. These approaches must build on existing knowledge of the carbon cycle, climate science and sustainable agriculture practices. To be effective, government and non-governmental organization (NGO) efforts, market-based initiatives, and research and extension programs must incentivize farmers’ adoption of these approaches by improving their standard of living through increased revenue, improved productivity or improved resilience.
