ABSTRACT

What are the best ways for communities to produce a vision and how does that vision actually direct concrete activity so that it is cumulative? Appreciative Inquiry, initially a methodology to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of private firms, has been adapted into an effective approach for communities to do the same. A very inclusive approach to visioning, it uses a process of Discovery about what works well in the community to support prosperity and community well-being. Identifying community assets and strengths that benefit the entire community, rather than a select few, develops an inclusive basis for visioning.
