ABSTRACT

The advent of personal computers, the Internet, and mobile phones has been accompanied by inventive approaches to using technology for health promotion and disease prevention, which, according to Wantland, Portillo, Holzemer, Slaughter, and McGhee (2004), increased more than sevenfold in the years between 1996 and 2003. Over 75% of U.S. adults access the Internet and over 82% of those aged 18–64 use cell phones. We have unprecedented opportunities to reach people to facilitate their adoption of healthy behaviors and help improve health outcomes using technology (Fox, 2010).
