ABSTRACT

In Cambodia, the informal sector constitutes 85 per cent of the workforce and accounted for 62 per cent of the GDP in 2003 (EIC 2006). According to the Asian Development Bank (ADB), 95 per cent of all employment is provided by the informal sector (Agnello and Moller 2004). Street vending is a significant component of the informal sector, and has been and still is an important means of livelihood for many of the poor in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia.
