This chapter explores:
how being a refugee or asylum seeker is different from being an immigrant;
a recent history of migration to Britain and across Europe;
migrants arriving in the UK from Eastern Europe;
who migrates to the UK and why;
why families seek refuge or asylum;
children seeking asylum and refugee status;
how best to support asylum seeker children in their learning; and
Britain’s ethnically diverse society.
