ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter it was said that energy security for a given country depends on two main groups of variables. The first group (shaded area of Figure 2.1, left column) is directly related to the country's system of energy supply corridors. In turn, the system can be described by a set of dimensions – dependence, vulnerability and connectivity – that reflect a country's energy needs, its dependence from exporting countries and its interconnection with producing and transit countries. The second group of variables was related to the geopolitical context affecting the energy corridors towards the country under study (shaded area of Figure 2.1, right column); these variables represent another dimension of energy security, related to the political, social and economic environment of producing and transit countries.
