ABSTRACT

In May 2005 the Swedish Foundation for Small Business Research organized a seminar in Brussels to consider perspectives on Entrepreneurship and Economic Growth. Despite an array of academic leaders in the field, no-one succeeded in answering the question as to whether entrepreneurship leads to economic growth. This conclusion contrasts with a recent OECD report that states it is abundantly clear that entrepreneurship is important for economic growth, productivity, innovation and employment, and many OECD countries have made entrepreneurship an explicit policy priority. As globalization reshapes the international economic landscape and technological change creates greater uncertainty in the world economy, entrepreneurship is believed to offer ways to help to meet new economic, social and environmental challenges (OECD 2010).
