ABSTRACT

There is a relatively long history of studies about memory and aging that are particularly insightful about how healthy aging relates to and differs from the cognitive malfunctions associated with illness such as Alzheimer’s disease and vascular dementia. Unfortunately, data from the psychology laboratory cannot be applied directly to making a variety of information technology (IT) products easier for healthy older adults to use—even though there is clearly an acute need to understand why older adults often experience problems in using many IT-based products and to investigate how to make these products easier to use (Hara, Naka, & Harada, 2009; Harada, Mori, & Taniue, 2010; Mykityshyn, Fisk, & Rogers, 2002).
