ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines reflections on the process and outcomes of using semi-structured interviews to research the complex experiences and identities of South-Asian adolescent girls within the context of UK secondary schools. The term ‘South-Asian’ has been used to describe participants whose parents or grandparents have migrated from the Indian sub-continent (including those who have come to the UK via East Africa). This study focused only on South-Asian girls from Hindu, Sikh and Muslim backgrounds.
