ABSTRACT

Population ageing is a demographic process that has far-reaching implications. It affects ageing individuals and their families, communities and organizations charged with meeting the needs of seniors, and governments seeking to manage scarce resources. The debate about the social ramifications of population ageing almost always features a concern with economic or health care issues, often in combination. This chapter is concerned with an important sub-set of these issues, namely the workforce implications of care-giving to elderly people.
