ABSTRACT

A burglar prises open the front door, and steps onto a pressure pad switch that should set off a burglar alarm. Does all hell break loose, alarms flash and buzzers wake up the neighbours? Alas no! The problem is that the burglar was not being ‘fair’. The pressure pad switch was made at school and, in order to carry out a fair test, the switch was tested using the same person each time. Unfortunately, this person was one of the larger lads in the class, not like the burglar, who was distinctly lightweight. The burglar had failed to realize that, in order to give the occupants a fair chance, he would have to put on a lot of weight!
