ABSTRACT
Academic writing, professional practice, media interest in adoption and race and identity are dominated by the arguments surrounding same race and transracial placements. The issues raised are some of the most contested and polarised in the whole adoption debate. This chapter explores the complexities of the debate, by discussing the historical context, examining the research and drawing conclusions for future practice.
