Children’s experiences of loss A survey of 836 adolescents in their first year of secondary school in the North of England highlighted the high proportion of young people who have experienced significant losses (Branwhite, 1994). Students were asked to indicate which of a variety of different life events they had personally experienced. The results indicated that the majority of students had experienced at least one major loss in their lives, as outlined below.
