ABSTRACT

I shall limit my comments to three issues. First, I shall describe how the EMU will influence economic policy-making and the instruments available for economic policy purposes. Second, I shall briefly comment on the measures taken in Finland to ensure stability and efficiency in the economy and to alleviate the unemployment situation. Finally, I want to stress the importance of how continued convergence in the European economies is required to allow as many member states as possible to take part in the third stage of the Economic and Monetary Union from the very beginning.
