Bonamy Dobrée (1891–1974) was Professor of English Literature at the University of Leeds from 1936 to 1955. His books include ‘Restoration Comedy’ (1924), ‘Restoration Tragedy’ (1929), ‘Modern Prose Style’ (1934), ‘The London Book of English Verse’, with Herbert Read, (1949), ‘Alexander Pope’ (1951), ‘Rudyard Kipling’ (1967), and ‘Milton to Ouida: A Collection of Essays’ (1970).
