ABSTRACT

Born in Sheffield, England, Henry Bamford Parkes (1904–72) emigrated to the USA in 1927, and was naturalized in 1940. He became Professor of History at New York University in 1949, and was Chairman of the Graduate Division of American Civilization from 1944 to 1968. His books include ‘Jonathan Edwards’ (1930), ‘Marxism: An Autopsy’ (1939), ‘The American Experience’ (1947), and ‘The United States of America’ (1953).
