ABSTRACT

John Pudney (1909–77), who had been a friend and contemporary of Auden’s at Gresham’s School, Holt, worked as a BBC producer and writer from 1934 to 1937, then as a correspondent of the ‘News Chronicle’ (1937–41); later as a Director of Putnam’s, publishers, from 1953 to 1963. His published books include ‘Ten Summers’ (1944), ‘Collected Poems’ (1957), and ‘Lewis Carroll and his World’ (1976).
