Malcolm Cowley on Embattled Parables, From Spender and Auden, ‘New Republic'

Poet, editor, literary critic, and historian, Cowley (b. 1898) was Literary Editor, 1929–40, and Staff Critic, 1940–53, of the ‘New Republic’; President of the National Institute of Arts and Letters, 1956–9 and 1962–5; and Chancellor of the American Academy of Arts and Letters from 1967 to 1976.
