ABSTRACT
A.R. Humphreys (b. 1911) was Professor of English at the University of Leicester from 1947 to 1976. His publications include ’William Shenstone’ (1937), ’The Augustan World’ (1954), and ’Steele, Addison, and their Periodical Essays’ (1959), as well as editions of Shakespeare, Defoe, and Fielding.
