This is the third play of the Auden-Isherwood collaboration; and achieves more effectively, more assuredly what had been tentative in the earlier plays. Their dramatic genre here reaches complete power, which fact is worthy of praise and also enables criticism more justly to estimate the genre so brilliantly established. What does it mean to the theatre?
