ABSTRACT

The Andoque people claim that their conception of the world is limited only to what is directly known by them: the territory, peoples, stories and myths. This territory is understood in terms of such features as peaks, hills, savannah and rocks, that are known and named by the shaman. Therefore, they have religious, ceremonial and communal significance. Each of these places has an owner, and, in that way, they are ‘enchanted’. Such named places are the origin of everything that the people know: dance, work, healing, witchcraft and wickedness. Each place is identified by the mythical events that took place there.
