ABSTRACT

This chapter concerns the pathways underlying the evolution of domesticated sorghum, and its distribution in time and space. In our present state of knowledge the following statements appear reasonable starting points for the discussion:

GATHERING IN THE MIDDLE NILE VALLEY

The starting point for my discussion of possible trajectories in the transition from wild to domesticated forms of sorghum is empirical material from sites excavated between Atbara and Khartoum.
