ABSTRACT

Philosophie des Geldes (first published 1900; English translation, The Philosophy of Money, 1978) contains the most sustained treatment by Georg Simmel (1858-1918) of a theme that has always had critical significance for modern social theory, and to the analysis of which Zygmunt Bauman’s work has signally contributed in our own time: the nature of modern society.
