ABSTRACT
The use of external examiners to monitor the exit standard of degrees is a common practice in the United Kingdom. This chapter describes the external examiner system of Hong Kong University based on the UK model but modified to meet the special needs of Hong Kong. Some background information about the examiners is provided and their role explained. Some possible future changes to the system are considered.
