ABSTRACT

In this book, as already noted, our general approach has been to reason grammatically about the language of science. For this task we have used the theoretical framework of systemic functional linguistics. Systemic functional linguistics (hereafter abbreviated to ‘SFL’) has been evolved as a tool for participating in political processes. Seeing that the theory and practice of science, and science education, have a central place in our political life, it seems natural for us to adopt a systemic functional perspective.
