ABSTRACT

School policies for the development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) shows great differences in the knowledge and expertise of teachers and managers, as well as differences in funding. If a teacher is working in England and Wales, he/she should also be aware of the demands of the National Curriculum with regard to information technology and his/her own school's requirements for the delivery of skills in ICT. Successful email projects can be undertaken with a class even if the school has only one point of connection to the internet. A school in one country hosts a 'newspaper' site and children from schools all over the world contribute. The teacher should consider how the communication element of ICT can be developed within his/her own school or even his/her own classroom. Design technology offers a number of opportunities to use the range of information sources available to children through ICT.
