ABSTRACT

This chapter looks at ways in which teachers can use Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to make their jobs easier and their non-teaching work more effective. One of the main reasons for the enormous growth in the use of ICT over recent years has been its capacity to allow people to work more effectively or efficiently in a wide range of occupations. One aspect of the teacher's role that ICT can enhance greatly is the design of effective and attractive learning materials. All teachers need to write: lesson plans, schemes of work, policy documents, departmental handbooks, reports, notices and so on. Teachers need to handle increasing amounts of administrative and managerial information. Perhaps the greatest advantage is that much of the information that a busy teacher needs daily can be stored in a small device that can be at hand at all times. Palmtops offer the teacher some valuable functions.
