ABSTRACT

Safety has always been, and will remain, a high priority for the Queensland Government. A safe transport system reduces the risk of injury, death and property damage for system users and assists in reducing costs. The Government has a role to ensure the safe operation of the transport system. This is generally undertaken through regulation and education programs. When developing policies in relation to safety, technical, operational and accreditation standards both the monitoring of performance and enforcement strategies are considered. Generally, any variation in safety standards should reflect different levels of risk or consequences of accidents.
