ABSTRACT

This chapter is about helping pupils to make progress in their learning by taking into account what they have learnt in the primary school and the ICT work they have done at home. Teachers, both primary and secondary, sometimes underestimate the extent of pupils’ expertise. In addition to their school based learning, pupils learn from their friends and relatives and by finding things out for themselves by ‘playing’ with a computer. This all has a bearing on the work that we ask pupils to do. If they are presented with a curriculum that involves a considerable amount of repetition of old skills they are likely to become bored and their learning will be adversely affected.
