ABSTRACT

In Chapter 1 we discussed the diverse nature of ICT, which may be viewed as a Key Skill that underpins learning in a range of subject areas, a resource to support teaching and learning across the curriculum, and a discipline in its own right. The Key Skill of ICT demands that pupils actively seek and recognise opportunities to use ICT in other subjects and everyday life. This requires far more than basic ICT skills and techniques. It requires that pupils understand the potential of ICT and have the confidence and desire to seek opportunities to apply their knowledge, using their own initiative. In order to develop such knowledge and attitudes, we believe, the Key Skill demands that pupils experience the effective use of ICT as a tool or resource in all subjects in the curriculum.
