ABSTRACT

With the increasing globalization of business, crossing cultures is becoming more commonplace. Functioning effectively in a different culture is both complex and challenging. During the transition period of adapting to a new culture, the vast majority of people will experience mild emotional reactions and stress-related physiological symptoms. These reactions are so ubiquitous that Kalvero Oldenberg introduced the term “culture shock” in 1960 to describe them (Marx 1999: 5).
