ABSTRACT

In November 1994, referring to a mapping of youth cultural groups drawn up by this author on the basis of a study of the Moscow scene between 1988 and 1991 (see Appendix 1 p. 259), one interviewee noted:

that diagram would have to be all rubbed out now and [the categories] all mixed up…because earlier there was a purity in style but now the tusovka 1 of so-called ‘new Russians’ has appeared.
