ABSTRACT

This article takes a focused look at one example of the wider problem of ‘women’s careers’, which is a problem far from unique to Russia. A wide literature on the issue of ‘women in management’ already exists and documents the fact that across the world, managers at the highest levels are predominantly male. Moreover, if women do achieve top positions then it is usually not as line managers, but as narrow specialists in specific areas; in the West this is usually work in personnel or public relations, whereas in Russia it is generally economics and finance.
